Group Discussion

Group Therapy FAQs

  • Group therapy involves a small group of people who meet regularly with a trained therapist to discuss and explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The goal is to provide support, share experiences, and learn new coping skills in a safe, confidential environment.

  • We offer various types of groups, such as support groups, skill-building groups, and process groups. Each group has a specific focus, such as managing anxiety, building healthy relationships, or achieving weight loss goals.

  • Open groups: New members can join at any time as long as there is space. These groups often have a more flexible structure and allow for ongoing participation.

Closed groups: Membership is fixed, meaning the same group of people participates for the entire duration of the group. These groups provide a consistent environment and typically last for a set number of weeks.

  • Our groups usually range from 6 to 10 members. This size ensures that everyone has a chance to participate while still allowing for a variety of perspectives.

  • Each group session typically lasts 60–90 minutes, depending on the group. Groups may run for a set number of weeks or continue on an ongoing basis, depending on the type of group.

  • In group therapy, you gain support from others who may share similar challenges and learn from their experiences. The group setting provides a unique opportunity to practice new skills and receive feedback in a safe and supportive environment. Individual therapy focuses on one-on-one work with your therapist.

  • Yes, confidentiality is a key component of group therapy. All members agree to keep what is shared in the group private to create a safe and trusting space.

  • You are encouraged to share at your own comfort level. There is no pressure to speak until you feel ready, and some members find it helpful to start by listening to others before contributing.

  • Group therapy can be a great fit if you're looking for support, connection, and tools to manage challenges. During your consultation, we can help determine if a group is the right choice for your needs.

  • Yes! Many people find it beneficial to combine group therapy with individual therapy for a more comprehensive approach to their mental health.

  • We understand that life happens, but regular attendance is important for your progress and the cohesion of the group. If you must miss a session, please let us know in advance.

  • Contact us to schedule a consultation. We’ll help match you with a group that fits your needs and goals.
